What is Aisle Containment ?
Aisle containment is management of temperature by diverting the cold and hot air to the appropriate areas. Locating the hot and cold spots in the data center and evaluating the structure to determine the best possible containment for the data center. Aisle containment is one of the renowned ways to keep the server racks cool without high usage of energy. It has to do with how the unwanted air is diverted out and make space for cool air to come in. In, theory aisle containment is pretty simple. There are different strategies one can follow for the efficient working of your servers.
What is Cold Aisle Containment ?
Cold Aisle Containment: cold aisle forms a room sealed with barriers made of plastic, glass etc. The cold aisle has coolers and air conditioners which are used to condition the hot exhaust hot air from the rear of the systems in the data center and returns it to the hot aisle maintaining the appropriate server inlet temperature. Although they have their pros and cons, it works well for most of the data center requirements.
What is Hot Aisle Containment ?
Hot Aisle Containment is an aisle that created by rows of system arranged in such a way that their rears are side-by-side. That creates a hot aisle. The hot aisle is shut on all the sides by walls, roofs and doors and the exhaust air is discharged, the air conditioners take over. These air conditioners condition the exhaust hot air and return it to the cold aisle. This helps in the proper movement of exhaust hot air and cold air back and forth maintaining the required temperature for the smooth working of your servers.
